Toru KANEKO was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1962 and graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in 1988. He established his studio in Chiba in 2013.
Toru KANEKO is a silversmith specialising in objects and jewellery made in various metals with unusual patinations. He creates masterpieces through a combination of traditional Japanese metal making techniques and materials with an individual creativity that excites. He has been awarded numerous prizes in Japan including Tansui Prize from The Sato Artcraft Research and Scholarship Foundation in 2001.
He has exhibited extensively in Japan, Europe, US and Australia. His works have been collected by leading Institutions overseas such as the Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Ulster Museum and the V&A Museum in the UK.
